Begini ceritanya..

Ada server produksi OS-nya windows 2003 Enterprise Edition, memory 2GB (“payah kan..kalah sama laptop gw yg 3GB”)
Akhirnya karena kebutuhan..itu server di tambah 4GB jadinya 6GB. Setelah server direstart BIOS membaca RAM dengan baik..sampe 6GB tapi masalah ternyata di OS cuma membaca 2GB.. lah 4GB lagi kemana? Padahal kata om Bill Gates di website microsoft ditulis kalo windows 2003 Enterprise Edition bisa bawa memory sampe 32GB.

Akhirnya pertolongan datang..ternyata solusinya adalah ;
1. cari file boot.ini, letaknya di C:\
2. Edit file boot.ini..dibagian [Operating System] tambahkan “/PAE” di baris terakhir paling kanan
3. Save file & restart server.

Apa sih PAE?
Kepanjangan Physical Address Extension, adalah fitur dari prosesor x86 dan x86-64 yg bisa membaca pemakaian memory lebih dari 4GB yg dipakai di OS 32-bit. PAE mendukung prosesor  Intel Pentium (kecuali yg busnys 400MHz) dan prosesor AMD keluaran terakhir.
PAE hanya mendukung O/S yg berbasis 32bit. Berikut ini daftar O/S dan maximum memory yg didukung PAE

Windows 2000 Advanced Server  max = 8 GB of physical RAM
Windows 2000 Datacenter Server max = 32 GB of physical RAM
Windows XP (all versions) max = 4 GB of physical RAM*
Windows Server 2003 (and SP1), Standard Edition  max = 4 GB of physical RAM*
Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition max = 32 GB of physical RAM
Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition max = 64 GB of physical RAM
Windows Server 2003 SP1, Enterprise Edition max = 64 GB of physical RAM
Windows Server 2003 SP1, Datacenter Edition max = 128 GB of physical RAM

* Maksimum 4GB pemakain memory
